MY TRACK RECORD

No doubt every candidate in the current National Council election in BC will promise to “do something” (if elected) about the nomination process, and about grassroots participation more generally.  But what have they previously done about such matters?

I've been doing a lot.  For example, already in July 2025, a colleague and I submitted a comprehensive proposal to the Ad Hoc Committee of National Council regarding how the Rules, Procedures and Guidelines for the nomination process needed to be radically changed. Some elements of this proposal are now contained in Constitution Proposal #812, which was the top proposal on Ideas Lab during the co-sponsorship phase of the current convention cycle.

And since July I have also been working with other Conservatives committed to the common good of the Party on a range of other constitutional proposals directly related to my own current campaign promises. For example:

  • Proposal #887, which ensures that National Council will be able properly to review the budget proposals made by Conservative Fund Canada, before adoption of the budget.
  • Proposal #971, which proposes a nomination schedule that must be followed in all nomination processes.
  • Proposal #886, which insists that National Councillors should recognize their responsibility toward those who elected them and act in a manner consistent with this responsibility.
  • Proposal #813, which addresses the question of the enforcement of the Constitution.
  • Proposal #885, which puts one elected member of each of the National Constitution and Policy Committees on National Council’s convention planning committee
  • Proposal #897, which addresses the question of EDAs having access at all times to their own EDA membership lists and to contact lists of all EDA presidents within their own provinces and territories and beyond.
